Perfect perch, Colder temperatures mean more pigeons

Anyone who beats the downtown pavement toward Main and Dallas to shop at Foley's at this time of year is greeted by a larger number of pigeons than usual.
Referred to by those with disdain for the bird as "flying rats," pigeons are actually rock doves, so named because they nested in rock cliffs in England, said Lee Schoen, curator of birds at the Houston Zoo.
